Most Voorheesville students complain about how boring our town actually is. There is never anything to do. Younger students have the limited options of walking or biking to Stewart’s, Hannaford, or the town park. Even once a Voorheesville student gets his or her license and a car, the choices expand to the mall and….well that’s basically it. This is the main reason why when something exciting happens, everyone in Voorheesville is talking about it. The most recent excitement came for the Model United Nations students during their trip to Yale. The students were in the lobby of the Omni hotel when they noticed a reality star also sitting in the lobby. Vinny Guadgnino of the popular MTV reality show “Jersey Shore” soon found himself in the presence of Voorheesvillians.

“Jersey Shore” is a reality show that follows seven people living, working, and partying on the New Jersey Shore. The show was filmed in August of 2009 and premiered in December. The show caused a lot of controversy because of Italian stereotypes and the cast’s use of the words “Guido/Guidette.” There was also a lot of hostility from the locals because none of the cast members were from the area. Vinny Guadgnino is one of the cast members and is from Staten Island, NY.

“We first saw Vinny in the lobby of our hotel. We were excited when we realized it was him and we really wanted to meet him. We walked up and asked for a picture, but no autograph. He asked how many pictures we wanted,” explained Alex Kundel, one of the lucky students.  Unfortunately, a lot of the students were disappointed with the way Vinny acted toward them. “He acted kind of stuck up,” Alex admitted. “Jersey Shore” had become a lot more popular than its creators had imagined. Despite his perceived arrogance, it was still an exciting experience for the Voorheesville students.

“This guy was rude, but hey, that’s kind of neat that he’s at our hotel and on T.V.,” explained Alexandra Fasulo of her encounter with Vinny. She had a completely different experience than the previously mentioned Alex Kundel. “Only the kids from our school recognized him. He was all incognito in his ghetto garb,” Alex Fasulo said. She explained that one of her friends was the brave one that decided to ask for Vinny’s autograph. The only problem was that this friend had never seen “Jersey Shore” and asked the wrong guy for an autograph. This offended the reality star and he said, “Uh, why do want my picture if your kids don’t even watch my show?” 17-year-old Alex Fasulo describes her encounter the best: “He acted way too stuck up for being on a New Jersey reality T.V. show; you would have thought he was a movie star.
