Winter Wonder Land in Spring

The weather of the past month has acted more like winter than the entire season has been. The snowstorms in February have brought a drastic 21.6 inches. With this, the school had to call a contingency day. This loss of school is a sweet and sour aspect of snow because students lose a day off of their upcoming Memorial Day vacation. Also, if the students lose another day due to snow, students will lose another day off of their spring break.
People out shoveling this wet and heavy snow have regrets about living in the north east and continuously wonder where this has been for the past four months. Children play out in the perfect snowball snow for hours building forts, igloos, and snowmen. However, with the fall of this fresh blanket comes the excitement that has been building for months in waiting for it. Teens are out and about having extreme snowball fights and some were seen walking to friends’ houses to enjoy their day off. Cars slipped and slid across the secondary roads in attempts to get to where they were going. Others were seen in big parking lots attempting doughnuts.
Sledders trudged through three feet deep snow to feel the excitement of the steepest hill they could find. However, some students refused to take advantage of the situation and stayed inside watching television, refusing to embrace the coldness for a few hours of fun. Snow comes as a joy to those to attend school but a nuisance to the parents who do not find joy in driving to work in the dangerous conditions. The fun-loving nature of snow has been lost through the years of shoveling and seeing accidents.
Junior Evan Campana was asked about his thought on the snowfall. He stated, “it wasn’t much of a day off because I had to shovel all day. On the other hand I could be sitting in the warm school actually doing something for once.” Teacher Mrs. Mc hale stated that she was snowed into her house, and “it took me 2 hours to shovel myself out.” Hearing the trouble most had with what the storm will hopefully make us all think what we could do to prepare for another upcoming seasonal storm.
